Night Time Skin Care Routine

July 16, 2019

Pregnancy this time around has been a real biatch to my skin. Yes, even though we aren’t having a girl (I could have sworn we were in the beginning) my beauty has had to put up a fight. I guess old wives tales aren’t true?

For the most part, my main problem area has been around my chin and below either side of my mouth. Since these types of breakouts usually are affected by hormones I knew that I needed to treat my skin the best way possible to reduce breakouts and then prevent scarring. However, with that in mind I also knew I’d need to establish a quick routine and then use products that wouldn’t break the bank.

After some trial and error, I have finally figured out a routine that has not only matched all my criteria but has also significantly improved my skin quality. So with this being said, below are my steps to my nighttime routine! I have linked all the products used at the bottom in case you want to give them a try yourself!

STEP 1: Not pictured above is first and foremost my facial cleanser. I only wash my face once at night (and splash it with water in the morning) and when I do I use a noncomedogenic cleanser. Specifically I use Cetaphil. This means it will not clog your pores. Plus its super great for those who perhaps have sensitive skin.

With this step I also purchased these little facial scrubbers to help clean deeper and exfoliate. They have made such a difference with making sure all my makeup has been removed.

STEP 2: Once my skin has been cleaned, I will then take my little micro-needling tool and focus on rolling it around the corners of my mouth, chin, cheeks and forehead. The one I bought was from Marshalls but if you dont want to make a trip, Amazon has tons of great options.

Micro-needling, for those who have never heard of it, is a way of stimulating collagen and other healing factors through the process of causing trauma to the skin. While it sounds scary, it is anything but. It doesn’t hurt, you won’t bleed, and you’re the one in control. Since introducing this tool I have noticed a significant decrease in acne scars and fine lines. However, what is important to remember is to clean your micro-needler after every use. I recommend rubbing alcohol to ensure all bacteria is removed.

STEP 3: Next comes the witch hazel. Now this has actually been something I have always used on my skin. It wasn’t until pregnancy that I realized just how amazing this stuff could be, both for your face and for your nether-regions (if you’ve ever had a baby, you know what I’m referring to). Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, I like to apply this every night to help decrease swelling and redness.

STEP 4: Beauty Counter’s Night Overnight Resurfacing Peel is probably the most expensive thing I use on my skin. However, given the price and the amount of time I’ve had this one single bottle, I’d say its worth it. Seriously though, I bought this bottle back in December and still have a good amount left to use. That’s 7 months!

Aside from the pricing, you might be wondering if it actually is worth it. I’d say yes. Not only is this stuff made with good, genuine and SAFE ingredients but it also has greatly improved the overall quality and appearance of my skin. I apply about a pea-sized amount 2-3x a week and since starting have noticed how clearer my skin looks.

STEP 5: Get yourself a good facial oil. I have used Beauty Counter’s line of oils in the past and really loved them but they are also a bit pricey. That’s when I found this facial oil from Marshall’s (much cheaper at Marhsall’s then it is on Amazon). Now I’ll be honest and say I don’t know about how the ingredients compare to others but I gave it a try and love this stuff! It absorbs well and leaves my skin feeling like silk after every use. Maybe in the future I will invest in a better quality product but for now, this mama is on a budget and making due with what she’s got!

Make-up free and ready for bed 🙂
